About Me

Kia ora, Welcome!  I have been in the ECE profession since 2010 and graduated from the University of Auckland in 2013.  I married my husband in 2005 and have two teenage boys.  We love our short getaways in our little camper, a home away from home, ultimate relaxation!

I have a new purpose built space at the back of my property, a safe, secure and quiet area.  We are on the main bus route and have two parks at either end of my street so outdoor excursions will be a regular occurrence.

Each child has their own sleeping bed/cot and sheets, and have individual hand towels.  I provide a sustainable, environmentally friendly programme, teaching ‘Garden to Table’, recycling and how to look after our environment.

I have a strong focus on relationships and developing authentic, loving and nurturing relationships.  I believe this sets the foundation for life-long learning, and with my low ratio, I can provide for children’s individual needs and interests.

Our Time Together

Authentic, loving and nurturing relationships is the heart of what I do.  I am a passionate Educator and Home based care and education allows me to form strong bonds not only with the tamati (child) but with their whānau (family).  I believe this sets the foundation for life-long learning. I strive to provide a safe and settled environment where I provide varied opportunities for exploration both independently and alongside others.  I provide a warm safe and nurturing environment where children can grow, learn and develop.

I endeavour to provide children with a sense of belonging, through welcoming and authentic interactions and explorations.  This will enhance their emotional and social skills, therefore promoting wellbeing and positive development.

I am passionate about the outdoor environment, this connects us to the place that we live and boosts our mental health, whilst also allowing us to foster a love of the natural world.

I acknowledge that the parents and whānau are the child’s first teachers so I endeavour to work in collaboration with them.  Through a respectful, collaborative relationship, I can ensure that children are emotionally nurtured and have every opportunity to experience positive social
interactions.  Providing a safe and nurturing environment supports children’s holistic way of learning.   I believe that collaboration is central to the curriculum, as it allows for reflection, revisiting and informing my teaching practice.

I believe in using authentic and nature inspired materials, as they offer rich visual stimuli and hands-on sensory experiences.  Children have a natural curiosity to learn, through proving a rich, stimulating and challenging environment I’m enhancing their emotional, physical and social development.

I apply a pedagogy of mindfulness, respect and a child and heart centered approach.  I believe in the connection between the head, heart and hands and how this supports children’s journey of exploration, creativity and meaningful connections with the world around them.

Stems FROM HOME Programme

Stems FROM HOME run a varied weekly programme that all of our Educators and whānau are welcome to attend. This includes;

Playgroup, Little Groovers Music, Korikori Tinana/Active Movement, Kaititiro Whenua (community explorers), and Art in The Park.  We also frequently visit the local Rest Home and O Wairoa Marae, and do workshops for the children at Bunnings. All information is shared in our term flyer.
