About Me
Kia ora, my name is Emma and I live in Lincoln with my husband Richard and our three children – a girl and a boy teens, and our youngest boy being primary school aged. Two cats and one energetic spaniel complete the family. We are a mixed bag with all of us enjoying sports, camping, hiking, and generally being outside. However both of the boys enjoy maths and science as well, and my daughter and I enjoy art and reading. I have a good strength with children for running art activities, and over the years have taught lessons to children that have left my care or family friends.
While doing my Bachelor of Teaching and Learning I excelled in brain development so although I did some time as a supervisor at a Playcentre and then the polar opposite working in a Montessori I had a great appreciation for Home Based Care and it’s application for brain development. With my experiences working in both of these places, as well as traditional preschools, I will always offer a warm and welcoming environment that focuses on children first. I was privileged enough while my children were young to do Home Based Care so I know it’s great for all of us.
I’m looking forward to returning to this way of teaching. After school hours the children will also get to experience of what it is like with teens in the house – which will be a novel part of the experience for me.
Our Time Together
I like to spend my time balancing the warm and engaging Home Based Care in a home life that is comfortable for children, mixed with regular outings in the community. We love the library, music sessions, gyms and catching up with other educators! There is also a lovely park walking distance down the road and a walkway across the road – great for those quick running races that are often needed – especially in winter.
Having worked for 20+ years in multiple environments I run my programme with two main philosophies. I like to offer free play, mixed with outings but I also like run specific activities such as art, sensory exploration, before school skills, and Montessori based activities . I like to really get to know the children I am teaching and plan my program so they each child gets the absolute best philosophy that works for them.
Stems FROM HOME Programme
Stems FROM HOME run a varied weekly programme that all of our Educators, tamariki and whānau are welcome to attend. This includes;
Playgroup in Izone at our Stems base, Little Explorers (outdoor experiences and outings) and Music and Movement group in winter terms. Our Playgroup sessions include regular arts and crafts, imaginary play, chances to explore individual interests, as well as other fun visitors depending on current interests. All information is shared in our term flyers and planned from the children’s burgeoning interests.
